The two NBC channels will offer specific high-def coverage of soccer and basketball. They will be in addition to NBC's high-def Olympic broadcasts on such channels as CNBC, Universal HD (high-def coverage 24 hours a day), USA Network and NBC itself.
Time Warner has announced that the basketball and soccer channels will be available in its New York region while Cox said today it will offer the two channels in the Hampton Roads, Virginia market.
"In the Hampton Roads localities where network optimization has occurred, customers also will have more than 800 hours in High-Definition Olympic coverage. This includes two HD channels airing only during the Olympics: NBC Olympic Soccer Channel and NBC Basketball Channel," Cox said in a statement.
The Olympic coverage is scheduled to begin on August 6 and extend until August 24.
DIRECTV and Verizon's FiOS have previously announced that it will carry the high-def soccer and basketball channels.
