-- Philips' 42-inch
42PF9631D
Plasma HDTV offers a solid picture and a stylish
addition to your living room.
That's the conclusion of a review by PC World magazine.
The publication says "with its wide black bezel, silvery speakers, and semitransparent stand, the Philips 42PF9631D 42-inch plasma HDTV is a graceful and imposing presence."
However, PC World likes what's on the screen as well:
"The most important part of any television, though, is the picture it presents on its screen, and the 42PF9631D more than holds its own on that score," PC World says.

The magazine gives the flat-panel set a score of 77 out of a possible 100, which it considers "good." The suggested retail price for the high-def set is around $1,499.

Philips' 42-inch Plasma can be found for less than $1,500.
The Philips 42PF9631D also comes with the company's trademark Ambilight feature, which surrounds the display with a glowing color related to what's on screen.
"I'll admit that the idea sounded a bit silly to me at first, but when I watched our usual test scenes of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King with Ambilight on, I found the experience absorbing enough to justify watching a few more scenes just for fun," says the magazine's reviewer.
PC World says the flat-panel set "stood out" in its bright lights test; it maintained a consistent color and contrast in a well-lit room.
