Pay HDTV Homes to Rise 50 Percent In 2008
The number will skyrocket by 2012, says new report.
By Swanni
That's according to a new forecast from research firm Pike & Fischer.
The group projects that more than 47 million U.S. households will subscribe to a HDTV service by year's end -- an increase of 17 million homes from the end of 2007.
Pike & Fischer counts a pay HDTV home as one that buys a high-def program service or rental equipment from companies such as cable, satellite and telco TV providers.
The research firm predicts that the number of pay HDTV homes will jump to 103 million by 2012.
If true, Pike & Fischer says high-def video will generate up to $2.6 billion in annual revenue for the TV providers by the end of 2012.
