Game of Thrones: Most Pirated Show Of 2012

Washington, D.C. (June 12, 2012) -- HBO's Game of Thrones is easily the most illegally downloaded show this season, according to the website, TorrentFreak.com.

The site, which monitors how copyright issues affect entertainment content, says the average episode of Game of Thrones was illegally downloaded nearly four million times. TorrentFreak says the period drama was pirated so often because HBO has restricted its availability online.

"It's clear that HBO prefers exclusiveness over piracy, which is a dangerous game,” TorrentFreak said in an article. “They might make decent money in the long run by selling subscriptions. However, this limited availability also breeds pirates, and one has to wonder how easy it is to convert these people to subscriptions once they have experienced BitTorrent ( a site where people share illegal content).”

TorrenFreak.com says CBS' How I Met Your Mother was the second most pirated show with 2.8 million illegal downloads per episode. The Big Bang Theory was third with 2.7 downloads while House, Mad Men, Modern Family, Revenge, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy and Supernatural followed.
