So says Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer who made the comment in a recent interview with the TV program, CEO Exchange.
Stringer acknowledged that the video game console, which starts at $499, had to be priced higher than Microsoft's XBox 360 and Nintendo's Wii because of the Blu-ray player inside.
"If we fail, it is because we positioned PS3 sales as the Mercedes of the videogame field," Stringer said.

The Sony chief said the company decided to turn PS3 into some more than a simple game console.
"PS3 is a different
audience and it can be whatever it wants: a home
server, game device, even a computer," Stringer
said.
Despite the cautionary talk, Stringer said that Blu-ray
sales are doing well and predicted that the high-def
player will ultimately boost PS3.
"(Blu-ray
is) selling 3-to-1 versus (HD-DVD)," Stringer said.
"We have exclusives with Disney, Fox, Sony and they
have the top 15 of 20 movies at the moment...At some
point Blu-ray will take over based on this support."
