Washington, D.C.
(February 21, 2007)
-- Rainbow Media next month will launch a series of
special interest programs for cable's High-Definition On
Demand service.
That's according to an article in the current issue of Cable World.
Called "lifeskool," the shows will provide guidance on issues such as physical fitness, music instruction and specialty sports.
Rainbow has offered on-demand niche programs for a few years under the title of Mag Rack. However, the company will change the name to lifeskool on March 29 with the launch of the new programs.

Anna Kournikova will teach tennis in high-def.
Dan Ronayne, Rainbow Media's senior vice president, tells Cable World that lifeskool is all about helping viewers improve their lives. And the executive is not concerned if each program is seen by a small audience.
"These are small niches but that's what we do," he says.
For example, Rainbow will offer a series of "sportskool" fitness videos in high-def which include instructions on skiing from Olympic medal winner Bode Miller; advice on basketball from NBA legend Bill Walton; and tips on tennis from Anna Kournikova.
Rainbow's high-def offering could be well timed. Cable TV operators, particularly industry leader Comcast, is planning to add more HD programming to their on demand lineups.
In addition to cable deals, Rainbow will also help pay for the venture by signing up one advertising sponsor for each program
