“The widespread
distribution of Blu-ray titles into the primary rental channel
is supporting the rapid adoption of the format by consumers,
greater than what we saw on DVD,” Rentrak VP Brad Hackley said,
according to Video Business.

The publication said Rentrak found that consumers spent more
than $111 million renting Blu-ray discs at retail outlets --
44.5 percent more than last year's third quarter.
In 2009 thus far, Blu-ray rentals are up 53.8 percent. DVD
rentals through retail and online outlets are down 2.8 percent.
Knowing has been the leading rental title in 2009 thus far,
according to Video Business.
