Samsung's HP-S5053 Plasma HDTV looks good
in more ways than one, according to a review by PC
World magazine.
The publication says the 50-inch flat-panel makes a big
statement in any living room because of its shiny black
cabinet and stand. Plus, says PC World, its "image
quality is generally pleasing, too."
"Our test jury liked the HP-S5053's performance on both
High-Definition and standard-definition TV content. It
maintained realistic skin tones, bright colors, and
strong contrast even in PC World's bright-lights
test," the magazine said in a recent review.
Plasma HDTVs sometime exhibit screen glare when viewed
in a well-lit room.
PC World added that the Samsung flat-panel "excelled" at
displaying DVDs, showing good color balance,
particularly with skin tones.

On the negative side, the publication's reviewer
criticized the set's remote, saying the buttons are not
well spaced out.
"Even a person with relatively large hands must shift
the remote about frequently to perform typical
functions," the review said. "Since the remote has sharp
edges around its top face, this process can be
uncomfortable."
The set, which also has two HDMI inputs, was priced at
around $4000 last spring. However, it can now be
purchased for as low as $2,000 at some e-commerce web
sites.
