HDTV Review: Samsung 46-Inch 1080p LCD
PC Magazine gives it three stars out of a possible five.
By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (February 17, 2007) -- Samsung's 46-inch 1080p LCD offers many compelling features but falls short in picture quality.

That's according to a new review by PC Magazine.

The publication says the Samsung
LN-S4696D has a "poor deinteracting performance (that) adversely affects" both its standard and high-def video. The flat-panel set, the magazine says, also suffers from a weak video-noise reduction and "excessive image overscan with HD content."

However, the Samsung set, which can be found online for $2,499, does offer HDMI, VGA and Component video connections compatible with 1080p signals. Additionally, the magazine writes, it comes with a stylish black bezel and oval-shaped base that provides over 20 degrees of swivel in each direction.

Due largely to the set's design and features, the magazine gives it three stars out of a possible five. But  PC Magazine's reviewer could not overcome its disappointing picture quality.

"The (set) strikes a solid balance of features, functionality, and style. Image quality, however, is the most important characteristic of any HDTV, and the LN-S4696D struggled to turn in even mediocre performance," the review stated.
