Samsung Blu-ray Player: $569 at Amazon
The e-commerce site knocks
$300 off the retail price.

Washington, D.C. (December 28, 2006) --
Looking for a bargain on a Blu-ray
HDTV DVD player? We've found one today at Amazon.com.
The e-commerce site is now selling the Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray
player for just $569.99 -- more than $300 less than the
suggested retail price of $899.
Blu-ray, which is backed by Sony
and seven of the eight major film studios, is competing with
Toshiba's HD-DVD for the new high-def DVD market. Many consumers
have been reluctant to buy the Blu-ray player, though, because
it has been priced up to $1,000.

At $569, the Samsung player is
close to the $499 retail price of HD-DVD players.
Amazon.com is also offering free shipping on the Samsung
BD-P1000 player for qualified customers.
The high-def player can play both Blu-ray and standard DVDs. But
it can not play HD-DVD discs. The device can also "upconvert"
standard DVDs so their picture is close to high-def.
