Scorsese: Blu-ray Is Red Hot
TVPredictions.com

Washington, D.C. (November 4, 2009) -- Director Martin Scorsese said yesterday that watching a movie on Blu-ray high-def disc is "like experiencing the film for the first time again."

Scorsese, director of such classics as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and The Departed, made his remarks during the Blu-Con 2.0 conference in Los Angeles, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"Blu-ray is going to extend the lifetime of a movie," Scorsese said. ""It's like experiencing the film for the first time again. It's not just the details of the eyes or such; it creates a completely different experience."

Scorsese also said that many movie theaters lack the proper equipment to display a movie the way a director intended. But Blu-ray, he added, "allows the film to be seen as closely as possible to how it was intended to be."

In related news at the conference, the Hollywood Reporter writes that several studio executives lamented that the sluggish economy has hurt both DVD and Blu-ray sales.

"
But as the recession eases, we're already starting to see the business start to recover," said David Bishop, president of Sony Home Entertainment.
