Black Friday: Sears Deals -- Revealed!
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (October 19, 2010) -- Sears has announced that it will hold an early 'Black Friday' sale on October 29 and 30, roughly four weeks in advance of the traditional opening of the holiday shopping season.

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, has become a cultural phenomenon with waves of shoppers crashing into retail outlets at the crack of dawn in search of great deals.

While some industry observers who follow holiday shopping trends say Sears' event doesn't really count as a Black Friday sale, the retailer could be joined by other early entrants looking to pump up holiday sales in the middle of a sluggish economy.

As for Sears, the retailer has
published a 16-page circular which featured 158 "discounted" Black Friday items. In the CE category, Sears says it will discount the following items on October 29 and 30:

Vivitar X029, 10 Megapixel Optical Zoom Camera -- $49
RCA 40-Inch, 1080p LCD HDTV -- $499
PlayStation 3 160GB Entertainment System -- $299
Nintendo Wii Bundle, including Wii Sports and Motion Plus -- $199

Of the four items, the RCA set represents a real discount, with most 40-inch RCA 1080p LCD models going for around $550-$600. The PS3 can already be had for $299 at most ecommerce sites. The Nintendo Wii Bundle price is a small discount while the Vivitar X029 now costs $59 at Amazon.com.

It's possible that Sears will add more CE items between now and the October 29-30 sale. With just four electronics products on "discount," it will be hard to generate enthusiasm among CE enthusiasts.
