HDTV Review: Sharp's 37-Inch LCD
CNET gives the flat-screen set a score of 7 out of a possible 10.
By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (February 17, 2007) -- Sharp's 37-inch LCD HDTV is a bit expensive but the picture makes it well worth the money.

That's the conclusion of a review by CNET.com

The technology web site says the Sharp
LC-37D40U, which retails for around $1,500, delivers "relatively deep blacks" and offers several picture adjustments; two HDMI connections and an "attractive all-black styling."

On the negative side, the set tends to overemphasize red colors while downplaying greens.

But overall, CNET gives the flat-panel set a score of 7 out of a possible 10.

"The Sharp LC-37D40U delivers some of the deepest blacks and very good overall image quality for an LCD, making it worth the extra dough for home-theater fans," CNET writes.

The high-def set has a native resolution of 1,366x768 pixels and includes a ATSC high-def tuner so local HD signals can be displayed with an off-air antenna.

CNET's reviewers tested the set with a standard definition DVD of King Kong and came away impressed.

"The Sharp LC-37D40U offers superior picture quality to that of most LCDs we've reviewed, with deeper blacks and excellent detail, although its color accuracy leaves something to be desired," the site stated.

CNET also liked how cable high-def images displayed on the set.

"Turning to high-def, the Sharp held its own. Again, its less-saturated color was visible in the faces of the announcers on SportsCenter, and its superior depth of black was clearly visible in a space combat scene when we watched Battlestar Galactica," CNET said.
