The flat panel set is just 1.1 inches thick.

That's according to articles by IDG News Service and the Associated Press.
While just a prototype now, Sharp officials said the technology in the display could be added to retail products in the next year or two.
The set, which was showcased today in Japan in a session with reporters, weighs about 55 pounds, roughly 50 percent less than current LCD TVs.
Sharp also said it will take up about half of the energy consumption of current models.
IDG reports that the set can receive TV signals through a high-speed wireless link. No cable will be required except for the wall plug.
The 100,000 to 1 contrast ratio means that the high-def screen would produce a clear and colorful image in an extremely bright room.
''You will experience vivid colors unknown in today's LCDs,'' Shigeaki Mizushima, Sharp's general manager for display technology, said today, according to AP.
The ultra-thin panel should appeal to decor-minded consumers. Most LCD HDTVs today are roughly 3-4 inches thick.
