The Simpsons:
HDTV Can Make You Look 'Krusty'
The animated satire
pokes fun at how TV personalities look in candid HD.
By Phillip Swann
Washington, D.C. (November 6, 2006)
-- The Simpsons' annual Halloween special last
night took on its scariest subject yet:
High-Definition TV.
How TV celebrities look in crystal-clear high-def, to be
specific.
During the Treehouse of Horror's second segment,
Springfield's favorite TV personality, Krusty the Clown,
informs his audience that his children's show will be
broadcast in HD starting next week.
Krusty then glares into a HDTV camera stationed to his
left and says, "And this is how I will look in HDTV."
The camera shows an unflattering close-up of Krusty with
bloodshot eyes and various facial imperfections.
"How do you like your hero now?" Krusty scoffs.

Krusty: Not looking forward to high-def.
TVPredictions.com and other publications have noted that
some celebrities do not fare well when seen in high-def
which offers a picture far clearer than standard TV.
The Simpsons, which has aired on Fox for 17
seasons, has often poked fun at new technologies, such
as satellite dishes, iPods and now HDTV. The animated
series, however, is not broadcast in high-def.
