Washington, D.C. (September 25, 2008) --
Sling Media today launched a new $300 set-top that can send High-Definition signals from one TV to another.
The Slingbox PRO-HD is priced $100 lower than when it was announced last January. It will be the first Slingbox that can display high-def signals sent from a different location and it can now be ordered from slingmedia.com and some ecommerce sites such as Amazon.com.

The Slingbox PRO-HD.
However, there is a catch: Because of the bandwidth requirements in transmitting HD signals, the set-top will work most effectively when sending programming to a different room in the same house. This would enable someone to use the Slingbox PRO-HD to set up a home network, sending HD signals to different TVs in the house.
The box can deliver high-def signals over the Net to a remote location, but the Broadband connection at both locations must be at least 1.5 MB per second.
The box can also stream high-def content to a PC over a home network.
Sling Media, which is owned by satcaster EchoStar, says the new box will include inputs for TV receivers and Blu-ray and HD DVD players. The company says it will be available at retail in the coming weeks.
