No Mad Men In HD For DIRECTV, Dish Network
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (July 23, 2010) -- Well, in just over two days, AMC will debut the fourth season of Mad Men in High-Definition. But the so-called HD industry leaders -- DIRECTV and Dish Network -- will only air the program in standard-def.

Why?

The two satcaster have not commented on why they haven't added AMC HD, which is available via Verizon's FiOS TV service and in select markets served by such cable operators as Comcast.

But money is the likely culprit here. In fact, this week, DIRECTV CEO Mike White complained to the Los Angeles Times that the high cost of obtaining programming is the company's greatest concern.

In other words, DIRECTV, and likely Dish as well, does not want to pay AMC's owner, Rainbow Media, the extra money to carry the channel in high-def.

I've written here before about how the satcasters are underestimating the interest in Mad Men, which will begin its fourth season on Sunday night. So now I want to simply give you some contact information so you can express your opinions directly to DIRECTV and Dish Network.
