-- Many Home Theater enthusiasts love to watch
High-Definition TV on 100-inch pull-down screens that
display video from front projectors across the room.
However, some film lovers believe the front projectors don't offer images as crisp and detailed as a flat-panel or rear-projection HDTV. The reason, they say: The video, when blown up on the oversized screen, can lose some of its original resolution.
But perhaps they haven't seen Sony's VPL-VW100 1080p front projector, which CNET.com says "produces big, beautiful 1080p images."
The technology web site gives the front projector, which retails for around $8,000-$9,000, a score of 8.6 out of a possible 10.

CNET says it offers "solid video processing with 2:3 pull-down and proper deinterlacing of 1080i; resolves every detail of 1080i and 1080p sources (and) can produce deep black levels."

Sony's 1080p projector will bring smiles to Home Theater fans.
On the negative side, the site notes that the projector is expensive; its replacement lamp is also pricey; and it can be a power hog at 610 watts.
But overall, CNET gives the front projector a big recommendation.
"The bottom line: The Sony VPL-VW100 produces big, beautiful 1080p images at a price-to-performance ratio that no current projector can match," CNET says.
The site's reviewer said the Sony projector does a "tremendous job" with broadcast HDTV programming, "providing outstanding images that showed every details and every flaw." He also praised how the front projector displayed several HD-DVDs in 1080i.
"When displaying such a high-quality source, the Sony provided the sharpest, most amazing front-projection home-viewing experience we've seen to date," CNET said.
