The Sopranos, which stars James Gandolfini as crime boss Tony Soprano, has arguably been television's top drama since its first season in 1999. However, some critics said last season, which closed in June, lacked focus and too often indulged in boring subplots.
The final season, which will have nine episodes, is expected to close the chapter on the family saga although creator David Chase has hinted there may be a film version.
