The station, which debuted its HD newscasts on Thursday, is the first in the area to do so.
WLEX, the NBC affiliate in Lexington, announced a few weeks ago that it would offer HD news. But station general manager Tim Gilbert tells the Lexington Herald-Leader that the launch is still a few weeks away.
The two stations yesterday engaged in a mild war of words over which one will have the best HD news production.

The newspaper reports WKYT accelerated efforts to install the necessary equipment to produce the news in high-def. The station said it made minor changes to its current set
But WLEX said it has hired a design firm to build a new HD-friendly set.
"We never considered retrofitting the old set to shoehorn it into a High-Definition environment," said WLEX's Gilbert in an apparent slap at WKYT.
But Wayne Martin, WKYT's
general manager, said his station's broadcast will feature
field reports filmed by HD cameras. WLEX said it would use
'enhanced' digital cameras, but Gilbert said the difference
is small.
There are now approximately 40 local stations broadcasting
the news in high-def.
