Nats' Kasten: Strasburg Likely to Start 2010 In Minors

By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (December 7, 2009) -- Washington Nationals President Stan Kasten said today that 2009 top draft pick Stephen Strasburg is likely to start the 2010 season in the minor leagues.

In an interview with former Nats GM Jim Bowden on XM Sirius Satellite Radio, Kasten said Strasburg's knee, which was injured in the Arizona Fall League, should not affect his preparation for -- or performance in -- spring training.

But he added that Strasburg was likely to start in the minors regardless of his spring training showing.

Nationals: They have the best prospect in the game in No. 1 draft pick Stephen Strasburg, plus solid talents in catcher Derek Norris, right-hander Drew Storen and shortstop Danny Espinosa. Some news reports have suggested that Strasburg will make the parent team based on his strong showing in the Arizona league.

Kasten did leave the door open for Strasburg to open the season with the major league club if he "blew people away" in spring training. But he reiterated that the current plan is to start him in the minors.
