March 7: Swanni's 10 Hottest Shows In HDTV!

By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (March 7, 2010) -- High-Definition TVs are now in more than 40 million U.S. homes and there are scores of high-def programming choices.

But which shows should you watch? And why?

Every day here at TVPredictions.com, I scan the HD programming aisles and serve up 10 programs so good -- so hot! -- that you can't miss them. Sports, movies, primetime comedies and drama -- they're all there and in beautiful high-def.

We call this list, "The Hottest Shows in HDTV!" And here they are for Sunday, March 7, 2010. (All times Eastern -- and don't forget the link below to today's 'HD Hottie -- in fact, today there are 5 of them!

1.  NASCAR Racing
The Kobalt Tools 500 from Hampton, Georgia.
Fox, Noon.

2. College Basketball Tripleheader
Florida at Kentucky, followed by the MVC Tournament Final, followed by Michigan at Michigan State, followed by several hours of therapy.
CBS, Noon

3. NHL Hockey

Red Wings at Blackhawks.
NBC, 12:30 p.m.

4. Redbelt
David Mamet directed this intense look at the underworld of martial arts fighting in seedy Los Angeles (actually mostly filmed in Long Beach, though).
Chiwetel Ejiofor is a revelation in the starring role as a instructor who won't compromise his integrity. But the supporting cast is overflowing with great performances and surprises, including Tim Allen playing serious as a bigtime Hollywood actor and former magician Ricky Jay as a corrupt fight promoter. Great movie.
Starz Edge, 1:35 p.m.

Bonus Pick:
College Basketball

Wisconsin at Illinois.
ESPN, 2 p.m.

5. NBA Basketball
Lakers at Magic.
ABC, 2:30 p.m.

6. The Barbara Walters Oscar Special
If the reports are true, this will be Babs' last pre-Oscar special after 29 years of asking people what kind of tree would they be if they happened to be, well, a tree. Tonight's interviewees include award-magnet Sandra Bullock who has 'branched' out to comedy and drama in recent years. Perhaps that makes her a special kind of tree, Barbara.
ABC, 7 p.m.

7. NBA Basketball Doubleheader
The hapless Washington Wizards -- yes, they have no hap whatsoever -- play the Boston Celtics. Trail Blazers at Nuggets in game two.
ESPN, 8 p.m.

8. The 82nd Annual Academy Awards
Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin co-host Hollywood's annual salute to itself. Tonight's show has a twist, however, with 10 movies nominated for Best Picture; kinda of like having your own Multiplex to choose from. Presenters and likely award winners tonight will include Jeff Bridges, Penelope Cruz, Miley Cyrus, Matt Damon, Cameron Diaz, Tina Fey, Tom Hanks, Samuel L. Jackson, Anna Kendrick, Jennifer Lopez, Rachel McAdams, Sean Penn (look out stageside photographers);
Amanda Seyfried, Ben Stiller, Charlize Theron and John 'The Toup' Travolta.

ABC, 8:30 p.m.

9. Big Love (new)
Season finale. Program descript: "Bill tries to protect his candidacy;
a polygamist scandal in Kansas makes national news."
HBO, 9 p.m.

10.  Keeping Up With the Kardashians
To counter the Oscars, E! presents 150 minutes of past episodes of the wild and crazy Kardashian girls romping, rolling and ripping up LA and every other city in their path.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Kim Kardashian.
E!, 9 p.m.
