October 18: Swanni's 10 Hottest Shows In HDTV!

By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (October 18, 2009) -- High-Definition TVs are now in more than 30 million U.S. homes and there are scores of high-def programming choices.

But which shows should you watch? And why?

Every day here at TVPredictions.com, I scan the HD programming aisles and serve up 10 programs so good -- so hot! -- that you can't miss them. Sports, movies, primetime comedies and drama -- they're all there and in beautiful high-def.

We call this list, "The Hottest Shows in HDTV!" And here they are for Sunday, October 18, 2009: (All times Eastern -- and don't forget the link below to today's 'HD Hottie -- in fact, today there are 4 of them!

1. The Dark Knight
Christian Bale stars as the Caped Crusader in the best film of 2008. Thanks to non-stop action scenes directed flawlessly by Chris Nolan and a tremendous supporting cast of Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman and the late Heath Ledger in his next-to-final role as The Joker, The Dark Knight is as good as it gets. If you haven't seen -- or even it you have -- see it -- today!
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Cinemax
West, 12:15 p.m.

2
. Figure Skating
The ISU Grand Prix from France.
NBC, 1 p.m.

3. NFL Football
Week six of the regular season. Check your local listings for times and teams.
CBS, Fox, 1 p.m.

4. The Fifth Element
It's no surprise that Sony often bundles the Blu-ray version of this Bruce Willis sci-fi film with a Blu-ray player. The movie, which is equal parts action and satire, offers impressive detail and mind-blowing colors. And Gary Oldman's odd channeling of Lyndon B. Johnson as a space despot is a scream. And lest we forget that supermodel Milla Jovovich plays an obligatory hot alien from God knows where.
HBO, 4:30 p.m.

5. 60 Minutes (new)
The grizzled veterans tonight examine how the government is combating the swine flu (poorly so far) and, to lighten things up, present a puff piece on Drew Barrymore, whose has just made her directorial debut (Whip It.)
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Drew Barrymore.
CBS, 7 p.m.

NFL Football

NBC, 8:15 p.m.

8. Curb Your Enthusiasm (new)
Seinfeld co-creator Larry David is back with new episodes featuring his one-man rant against societal correctness-- and they're pretty, pretty, pretty funny, if you ask me. Tonight, Larry discovers the upside of being disabled. See, told you -- no PC allowed here.
HBO, 9 p.m.

Bonus Pick:
Desperate Housewives (new)
Program descript: "Susan learns Julie has been keeping secrets." Keeping secrets. Isn't that all but a legal requirement for living on Wisteria Lane?
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Eva Longoria.
ABC, 9 p.m.

9. Dexter (new)
America's favorite serial killer is back -- and he's hungry for more. Tonight, Rita and the kids go out of town, which means Dexter's murderous impulses will go to town.

Showtime, 9 p.m.

10. Mad Men
(new)
The wild and crazy Madison Avenue executives of the early 1960s are back, smoking, drinking and balling just like old times. Tonight, Peggy and Paul compete for an account while the firm celebrates a milestone. What would that be? The one millionth cigarette smoked?
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of January Jones.
AMC, 10 p.m. (Except not on DIRECTV, which apparently has a stick up its ass about carrying AMC in high-def.)
