December 13: Swanni's 10 Hottest Shows In HDTV!

By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (December 13, 2009) -- High-Definition TVs are now in more than 40 million U.S. homes and there are scores of high-def programming choices.

But which shows should you watch? And why?

Every day here at TVPredictions.com, I scan the HD programming aisles and serve up 10 programs so good -- so hot! -- that you can't miss them. Sports, movies, primetime comedies and drama -- they're all there and in beautiful high-def.

We call this list, "The Hottest Shows in HDTV!" And here they are for Sunday, December 13, 2009: (All times Eastern -- and don't forget the link below to today's 'HD Hottie -- in fact, today there are 5 of them!

Bonus Pick:
Drag Me to Hell
Alison Lohman shines as a mousey bank loan officer whose life turns into a living Hell when she rejects an old gypsy's request for an extension on her mortgage. Justin Long ("Mac" from the Mac/PC commercials) delivers a sympathetic ear as her boyfriend while the underrated David Paymer is superb as the obligatory cold-hearted bank manager. But the real star is writer/director Sam Raimi who turns a worn horror plot into a clever satire of the struggle to survive in tough economic times.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Alison Lohman.
Cable and satellite HD VOD, various times.

1. The Dark Knight
Christian Bale stars as the Caped Crusader in the best film of 2008. Thanks to non-stop action scenes directed flawlessly by Chris Nolan and a tremendous supporting cast of Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman and the late Heath Ledger in his next-to-final role as The Joker, The Dark Knight is as good as it gets. If you haven't seen -- or even it you have -- see it -- today!
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Maggie Gyllenhaal.
HBO, 11:30 p.m.

2. NFL Football
Week 14 of the regular season. Check your local listings for times and teams.
CBS, Fox, 1 p.m.

3. Snowboarding
The ISU Grand Prix from Copper, Colorado.
NBC, 2 p.m.

4. Taken
Liam Neeson stars as an ex-government operative who's forced back into the field when his daughter is kidnapped in Paris. Maggie Grace plays the obligatory hot daughter while Famke Janssen is almost unrecognizable as Liam's bitchy ex-wife. Despite Neeson's advancing years (he's 57 now), his early days as an amateur boxer serves him well here and the action is fast paced. Good movie.

HBO,
4:15 p.m.

5. 60 Minutes (new)
The grizzled veterans tonight interview President Barack Obama (again? -- I think Obama gets more air time on 60 Minutes than Bob Simon.) and the world's greatest comedian, Ricky Gervais.
CBS, 7 p.m.

Bonus Pick:
Slumdog Millionaire
Director Danny Boyle's Oscar-winning film about a poor Indian teen who wins the big bucks in a nationally televised game show but almost loses it all when government officials question his uncanny ability to answer the show's questions. Fun movie with multiple strong performances from the unknown cast.

HBO, 8 p.m.

6
. NFL Football
Eagles at Giants.
NBC, 8:15 p.m.

7. Dexter (new)
Season finale. America's favorite serial killer is back -- and he's hungry for more. Tonight, someone BIG is going to get it. But who?

Showtime, 9 p.m.

8. Obama TV Continues
Well, it's actually called an Oprah Winfrey Primetime Special, but it's another interview with President Obama from the White House. This time, though, the First Lady will be on hand.
ABC, 9 p.m.

9. Californication (new)
Hank, a sex-addicted Hollywood type played by a real-life sex-addicted Hollywood type (David
Duchovny), tonight gets a surprise visit from Mia (the teenager he slept with in the previous season) and her boyfriend. Mia is played by Madeline Zima, last seen kissing Hayden Panettiere in an episode of Heroes.

(And no, President Obama won't be making a special appearance tonight. Although former President Bill Clinton would fit right in.)
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Madeline Zima.

Showtime, 10 p.m.

10. Doubt
Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman shine in this cinematic adaptation of the hit Broadway play about a popular priest who's suspected of child abuse. Amy Adams is also strong in support as a young nun who's caught in the middle of truth and perception. Good film.

Starz, 11 p.m.
