-- Many Americans today are sitting down to watch the
Super Bowl in High-Definition TV. But what's the best
high-def set on the market?
The question is guaranteed to spark immediate debate among high-def enthusiasts. Some might argue for a certain flat-screen HDTV while others will swear by a DLP rear-projection set, or perhaps even a DLP front projector.
In the March issue of Consumer Reports, the magazine's staff has attempted to solve the mystery by rating 98 different high-def sets. And, according to the publication, 15 of the sets reviewed deliver an "excellent" HD picture.

Consumer Reports rated the HD picture on 53 sets as "very good" with the rest called good, fair or poor.
Only one Plasma HDTV was given an "excellent" rating for its high-def picture -- Panasonic's 58-inch TH-58PX600U, which retails for $4,800. The "excellent" list also includes eight LCDs and six rear projection sets.
Any big game would look good on Panasonic's 58-inch Plasma.
However, 18 Plasmas reviewed were given "very good" marks for the HD picture.
