But in a new video posted at this site, Phillip Swann, president of TVPredictions.com, says Sony and its fellow Blu-ray supporters could still win the war in the next 3-6 months if they do three things:
1. Lower Blu-ray player prices to $199 this holiday season.
With Blu-ray player prices now starting at $499, Swanni acknowledges that Sony and its Blu-ray partners would have to subsidize the lower cost.
"But if they want to win this thing, that's what they will have to do," he says in the video.
2. Release more classic movies on Blu-ray disc.
Swanni says the four major studios that are supporting Blu-ray exclusively are still holding back on releasing scores of classic films.
"Get those classic movies out this holiday season and give people a reason to buy that Blu-ray player," he says.
3. Offer "buckets of cash" to retailers to back Blu-ray exclusively this holiday season.
"Let them know that if they only carry Blu-ray products this holiday season, it will be worthwhile now and in the future," Swanni says.
