Microsoft is the biggest booster of HD DVD, other than Toshiba which launched the format.
However, in a new video posted at TVPredictions.com, Swanni says Microsoft is wrongly emphasizing HD DVD's Interactive TV features rather than its great picture and sound.
That message, Swanni says, will turn off consumers who have consistently rejected Interactive TV for the past decade.
"Microsoft has been trying to shove Interactive TV down our throats for 10 years," Swanni says in the video. "But people simply don't want it. If they (Microsoft) continue to deliver the message that HD DVD is ITV, the format will fail."
HD DVD is batting rival Blu-ray for the new high-def DVD audience. Microsoft's HDi technology in HD DVD players enables viewers to re-edit movies, download trailers and participate in online polls among other activities.
The interactive features will be found in new HD DVD discs that will take advantage of the player's Internet connection.
Microsoft has been touring the country to promote HD DVD and its interactive features.
