Swanni's 2008 Predictions: DIRECTV HD Vs. Cable HD
The high-def guru makes his third prediction.

DIRECTV will indeed steal away a significant number of high-def customers from cable next year. The reason: For the past 18-24 months, cable has been emphasizing the 'Triple Play' in its advertising -- voice, Internet and video service. The cable ops have been afraid that the telcos Triple Play service would take away their best customers. But they have talked about Triple Play so much, people have almost forgotten about their TV lineup.
Meanwhile, DIRECTV has been investing its time and money expanding its high-def lineup. It now has more than 80 HD channels while most cable operators are stuck at 30. Plus, DIRECTV has invested heavily in marketing campaigns to promote that fact.
Consequently, when people think about Triple Play, they will think about cable or the telephone company. When they think about high-def, they will think about DIRECTV. So next year, many high-def owners will make the switch to DIRECTV.
