By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (August 19, 2010) -- High-Definition TVs are now in more than 40 million U.S. homes and there are scores of high-def programming choices.

But which shows should you watch? And why?

Every day here at TVPredictions.com, I scan the HD programming aisles and serve up 10 programs so good -- so hot! -- that you can't miss them. Sports, movies, primetime comedies and drama -- they're all there and in beautiful high-def.

We call this list, "The Hottest Shows in HDTV!" And here they are for Thursday, August 19, 2010: (All times Eastern -- and don't forget the link below to today's 'HD Hottie -- in fact, today there are 8 of them!

Bonus Pick:
MLB Baseball
The fightin' Tigers at the Yanks.
MLB Network, 1 p.m.

1. MLB Baseball
Angels at Red Sox or Giants at Phillies.
MLB Network, 7 p.m.

2.
21
Jim S
turgess stars as a brilliant MIT student who's lured into joining a card-counting scheme in Las Vegas. Kevin Spacey plays the ring's mastermind while Kate Bosworth is Sturgess' obligatory hot girlfriend. Based on a real life story, the film crackles with tension due to strong performances from Sturgess (think of a young Dustin Hoffman) and the always interesting (albeit hammy) Spacey.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Kate Bosworth.
FX, 7:30 p.m.

3. Drag Me to Hell
Alison Lohman shines as a mousey bank loan officer whose life turns into a living Hell when she rejects an old gypsy's request for an extension on her mortgage. Justin Long ("Mac" from the Mac/PC commercials) delivers a sympathetic ear as her boyfriend while the underrated David Paymer is superb as the obligatory cold-hearted bank manager. But the real star is writer/director Sam Raimi who turns a worn horror plot into a clever satire of the struggle to survive in tough economic times.

HBO, 7:30 p.m.

4. NFL Football
Patriots vs Falcons in pre-season action.
Fox, 8 p.m.

5. Wipeout
ABC's quest to prove it can be just as trashy as Jeff Zucker's NBC continues tonight with its latest game show in which contestants are smacked, bopped and slammed into various bodies of water. Tonight, contestants will compete the big dough by avoiding obstacles called the
Smack Wall the Sweeper and Organ Grinder. (Speaking of organ grinding, Mercury Ford ad babe Jill Wagner, pictured above, is the show's co-host.)

ABC, 8 p.m.

6. Burn Notice (new)
Tonight, Michael and his team come to the aid of a woman who has her entire life savings wiped out by a sleazy womanizer.
USA Network, 9 p.m.

7. Rookie Blue
(new)
ABC's summer series which chronicles the lives of five rookie cops Tonight,
the team investigates the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Missy Peregrym
ABC, 9 p.m.

Bonus Picks:
Taken
Liam Neeson stars as an ex-government operative who's forced back into the field when his daughter is kidnapped in Paris. Maggie Grace plays the obligatory hot daughter while Famke Janssen is almost unrecognizable as Liam's bitchy ex-wife. Despite Neeson's advancing years (he's 57 now), his early days as an amateur boxer serves him well here and the action is fast paced. Good movie.

MoMax, 9 p.m.

Doubt
Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman shine in this cinematic adaptation of the hit Broadway play about a popular priest who's suspected of child abuse. Amy Adams is also strong in support as a young nun who's caught in the middle of truth and perception. Good film.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Amy Adams.
Starz, 9 p.m.

8. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Director Michael Bay stuffed this sequel with even more CGI effects than the first Transformers. But Shia LeBeouf and Megan Fox (talk about a special effect) make for a winning pair as they try to save the Earth from the creepy metallic monsters. Fun for the entire family, albeit dumb fun.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Megan Fox.
HBO2 West, 10:30 p.m.

9. The Tonight Show With Jay Leno
Tonight's guests include Sofia Vergara in an encore performance.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Sofia Vergara.
NBC, 11:35 p.m.
