TiVo: No National Comcast Launch Soon
The cable operator is still testing the DVR service.
By Swanni
That's according to an article by Broadcasting & Cable Magazine.
Comcast first announced two years ago that it would offer TiVo's DVR service to its cable subscribers. However, the launch has been delayed by software and infrastructure issues. (The service will include both HD and non-HD programming.)
The cable operator late last year began testing the service in the New England area in limited areas.
TiVO CEO Tom Rogers today told investors at a Citigroup sponsored conference that Comcast's plan is to be "methodical."
He added that Comcast plans to test market various packages before rolling out the service nationally.
In addition, two cable industry sources tell TVPredictions.com that Comcast has had difficulty integrating TiVo's software in some local systems.
But B&C reports that Comcast is still upbeat on the TiVo partnership.
“It’s still in the early stages in New England,” B&CD quotes Comcast CFO Michael Angelakis today. “We think the product is very good.”
TiVo, which has struggled to generate new subscribers since DIRECTV stopped marketing its service, is hoping that the Comcast launch will lead to more cable partnerships.
