Toshiba: HD DVD Is Not Dead
The company's top marketing says the format's demise is premature.

Since Friday when Warner Bros. announced it was backing Blu-ray exclusively, many industry analysts have declared Blu-ray the winner in the format war.
Blu-ray now has the exclusive support of five major studios while HD DVD has just two.
But Jodi Sally, vice president of marketing for Toshiba, today declared at a press conference that the analysts are wrong.
"We've been declared dead before," she added.
The Toshiba official was addressing reporters prior to the opening of the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Sally said sales of standalone HD DVD players have outpaced standalone Blu-ray players in recent months. However, she did not include sales of the Sony Play Station 3, which has a Blu-ray player inside. With PS3 included, Blu-ray home penetration is far greater than HD DVD.
Toshiba today still seemed in shock that Warner endorsed Blu-ray although some had predicted it would happen.
"We were particularly disappointed that the decision was made in spite of the significant momentum HD DVD has gained," said Akio Ozaka, the company's chief of Toshiba America Consumer Products.
