The HD VOD lineup will include such shows as Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and Samantha Brown’s Passport.
The Travel Channel's high-def simulcast channel launched last January, but has experienced difficulty getting cable and satellite operators to offer it due to bandwidth constraints. Time Warner and Cox are two cable operators that offer the HD signal in some markets.
The HD VOD service, which requires less system space for a cable operator to carry, should have more success finding a place in On Demand lineups.
Multichannel News reports that the Travel Channel HD VOD menu will also include previews of new and returning series.
“Since launching our HD simulcast at the beginning of the year, we have made great strides in increasing the distribution for Travel Channel HD,” Patrick Younge, the channel's president, said in a statement. “Take up of our standard VOD offering has grown over 130 percent in the last year, which bodes well for our new HD VOD offer.”
