The Los Angeles Times recently published an article noting that Time Warner, the largest cable service in the area, offers fewer high-def channels than any other major market. However, the city's lawsuit is not related to the cable op's HD service.
Rocky Delgadillo, the city attorney, charges in the lawsuit that Time Warner has been guilty of deceptive pricing, Internet outages and widespread delays in service appointments.
The cable operator has been the subject of much criticism from city residents since it took over several local systems from Adelphia, which has since gone bankrupt.
“Time Warner Cable must be held accountable for illegally deceiving and ripping off its subscribers,” Delgadillo said in a statement.
Time Warner has denied the charges in the lawsuit, saying it has spent significant time and money upgrading the old Adelphia systems.
Delgadillo's lawsuit on behalf of the city seeks $2,500 in civil penalties for each violation.
