Time Warner to Curtail 'Free HD' Ads
TVPredictions.com

Washington, D.C. (March 5, 2010) -- Time Warner Cable says it will "curtail" running ads saying its HD service is "free" following a complaint by AT&T to the Better Business Bureau.

That's according to an article by Multichannel News.

The cable operator will also discontinue ads that claim AT&T requires its U-Verse TV subscribers to sign long-term contracts, the publication reported.

The BBB's National Advertising Division recommended that Time Warner Cable drop the two practices. The group said the cable operator is now charging the actual price for the high-def service, compared to a discounted price when the "free HD" ads began.

Additionally, the NAD said Time Warner's claim about AT&T's 'long-term contracts' was "unsupported."

Swanni's Take:

Time Warner Cable becomes yet another company caught with playing fast and loose with the facts when it comes to HDTV. If these companies would just focus on adding more HD channels -- which is what people want -- they wouldn't have to lie about the HD channels they now offer.
