The cable operator has been quietly adding high-def channels in small groups around the country in an apparent effort to counter DIRECTV's recent high-def expansion.
With the four new channels in San Diego, Time Warner says HD subscribers there now have access to nearly 30 high-def networks. DIRECTV says it now has more than 80 national HD channels.
The new channels added today in San Diego by Time Warner are: MHD, A&E HD, The History Channel HD and the Lifetime Movie Channel HD. (The latter two channels will only be available to residents in Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Vista, San Marcos and Fallbrook.)
“As part of our ongoing efforts to offer customers the HD programming they want, Time Warner Cable is excited to be adding more HD channels to our lineup,” said Judy Walsh, president of Time Warner Cable. “Customers can look forward to even more HD programming in 2008.”
