Washington, D.C. (October 14, 2008) -- Verizon's FiOS has added 53 new High-Definition channels to its lineup in the Pittsburgh area.

The telco says it's now offering 100 HD channels in Pittsburgh -- more than rival cable operators -- and 800 HD VOD titles each month.

The new HD channels added in Pittsburgh include
Animal Planet, TLC, Science Channel, Smithsonian Channel, ABC Family, Disney Channel, ESPNews, FX, MGM HD, Speed and Toon Disney.

Verizon has also launched
Hallmark Movie Channel in HD in Pittsburgh as well as 12 new high-def channels from HBO and nine from Cinemax in HD.

Verizon is also offering a year's free use of either an HD DVR or an HD Home Media DVR to consumers who sign up for FiOS TV by Oct. 31.

Earlier this year, FiOS expanded its high-def lineups in New York, New Jersey, Washington state and a few other markets to around 100 HD channels. The telco is expected to offer more high-def channels in more markets in the coming months.
