Washington, D.C. (November 3, 2008) -- Verizon's FiOS TV service has added 16 new High-Definition channels to its Rhode Island lineup, bringing its total of HD channels there to 102, the company says.
In a press statement, Verizon says it now offers more high-def channels than Cox, which serves the Rhode Island area. Cox's web site now lists approximately 50 HD channels in its Rhode Island lineup.
"High-Definition viewing is a must-have for so many of our customers, and we are making more of it available all the time -- more than any other cable TV provider," said Bob Driscoll, Verizon's regional vice president of sales.

Verizon also said today that new customers who sign up for FiOS TV by Dec. 31 (this is a nationwide offer; not just Rhode Island) will get free access for 90 days to three premium entertainment packages -- Cinemax, HBO and FiOS TV's Movie Package. The company said this represents free access to 70 premium channels, 40 of which are high-def such as HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz and The Movie Channel.
