Washington, D.C. (August 24, 2006)
-- ABC's The View
will begin broadcasting in
High-Definition TV on September 5, the same day as the debut of
co-host Rosie O'Donnell.
The first high-def broadcast will feature special guest Jessica
Simpson.
The morning talk show, which features a panel of female
personalities including executive producer Barbara Walters,
draws a strong female audience. The HD launch marks the first
high-def production in ABC's 'daytime' lineup (shows after 9
a.m. ET). Good Morning America began broadcasting in HD
in 2005.
“We’re incredibly pleased
that we will be able to bring The View to our daytime
viewers in HDTV," said Preston Davis, President of the network's
Broadcast Operations. "This continues ABC’s strong commitment to
providing the best picture and sound quality in order to enhance
our excellent programming.”

The View's switch to
high-def has been rumored for months. The show began using
high-def cameras earlier this year and also employed new make-up
techniques specifically designed for HD.
Earlier this week,
The Today Show announced that it will begin broadcasting
in high-def on September 13.
