Voom Sues Dish Network Over HD
The satcaster wants to move the high-def channels to a different programming package.

Washington, D.C. (February 27, 2008) -- Voom has filed a lawsuit against Dish Network to block the satcaster from moving its 15 high-def channels to a less watched programming package.

That's according to an article by Multichannel News.

EchoStar, the sister company of Dish Network, actually owns Voom's satellite and has an equity stake in Voom's 15-channel programming suite.

But the lawsuit contends that Dish wants to move the 15 channels to a programming package that would likely be viewed by fewer people and would likely require a separate subscription fee.

Dish now offers the 15 Voom channels in its 19-channel Ultimate HD package, which costs an extra $10 for any Dish "America's Top" subscriber, and in its 'HD Only' package of channels, which costs $29.99 a month.

It's unclear what Dish wants to do with Voom in the future. But Multichannel News reports that a New York state court has granted Voom a preliminary injunction that prevents Dish from moving the channels for now.
