Wal-Mart to Vudu: No More Adult Movies

Washington, D.C. (February 25, 2010) -- Vudu is closing down the adult section on its Video on Demand menu because of the company's sale to Wal-Mart.

That's according to an article by the web site TechCrunch.

Vudu, which announced the Wal-Mart deal this week, has sent an e-mail to its adult subscribers saying the service will be shuttered in the "coming days." The adult feature offered both high-def and standard-def films.

After the Wal-Mart deal was announced, many industry observers speculated that Vudu would be forced to close the adult section because it conflicted with Wal-Mart's family-friendly image.

"I can confirm that (Vudu will) no longer offer that content and that customers who previously purchased movies with adult content will receive a full refund," Wal-Mart told the site.

Vudu has been offering adult films since August 2008. The AVN Media Network, which provided the movies, charged $6.99 for SD films while high-def movies cost $8.99 to rent. The lineup included films and related content from such adult studios as Vivid, Hustler and Wicked.
