VUDU, which streams standard-def and HDTV movies and TV shows to the home, normally costs $399 at retail.
The set-top service, which requires an Internet connection, is planning to offer some video releases in High-Definition the same day they are released on DVD.
The cost for VUDU films vary with some requiring a fee up to $24.99; most rentals, though, are just $3.99.
"We're adding loads of HD quality content to the VUDU service so AQUOS owners will have thousands of new and classic movies, TV shows and more from which to choose" said Tony Miranz, VUDU's co-founder.
