That's according to an article in TWICE magazine.
The publication reports that the discount retailer is now testing the service using a third-party installer at 106 of the company's 580 Sam's Clubs.
Big box CE retailers Circuit City and Best Buy have launched home installation services in the last year due to increasing demand from customers confused about high-def technology.
In the future, consumers may be more likely to purchase a new set from a store that can provide complete service and installation.
"It's at the pilot stage, but if successful we're going to roll it out," Seong Ohn, a Sam's Club executive, told TWICE. "And if it rolls out we may also test delivery and in-home service."
Wal-Mart is also using "HDTV consultants" in less than 100 of its "supercenter" stores who advise consumers on high-def choices and accessories.
"That's in total test mode
right now," said Gary Severson, Wal-Mart's entertainment and
electronics senior vice president.
Wal-Mart has carried a limited number of high-def sets to its
stores in the last year. But Sony recently said it would soon
manufacture special HDTVs for Wal-Mart and other discounters.
The addition of the Sony sets will likely increase high-def
sales in Wal-Mart stores -- and high-def questions from
customers.
