October 28: Swanni's 10 Hottest Shows In HDTV!

By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (October 28, 2009) -- High-Definition TVs are now in more than 40 million U.S. homes and there are scores of high-def programming choices.

But which shows should you watch? And why?

Every day here at TVPredictions.com, I scan the HD programming aisles and serve up 10 programs so good -- so hot! -- that you can't miss them. Sports, movies, primetime comedies and drama -- they're all there and in beautiful high-def.

We call this list, "The Hottest Shows in HDTV!" And here they are for Wednesday, October 28, 2009: (All times Eastern -- and don't forget the link below to today's 'HD Hottie -- in fact, today there are 4 of them!

1. Get Smart
Steve Carell (The Office) delivers the funny in this remake of the popular 1960s TV spy spoof. Anne Hathaway plays his obligatory hot sidekick, Agent 99, and Dwayne "Don't Call Me the Rock, Damn It!" Johnson is surprisingly good in support as a fellow agent. LOL flick for the entire family.

See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Anne Hathaway.
HBO, 6 p.m.

2. MLB World Series
Phillies at Yanks in game one. Lee vs. Sabathia.
Fox, 7:30 p.m.

3. NBA Basketball
New Orleans at San Antonio.
ESPN, 8 p.m.

4. The Ultimate Trailer Show (new)
Texas-based film critic Robert Wilonsky tonight reviews trailers for  Halloween-themed films, including Nightmare on Elm Street and Trick or Treat.
HDNet, 8 p.m.

5. Milk
Sean Penn shines in this absorbing (albeit somewhat preachy) drama about the 1970s gay activist Harvey Milk who was assassinated by a twisted San Francisco politician named Dan White (played perfectly by Josh Brolin.) It was the political event that proved once and for all that Twinkies don't go well with Milk, in real life and the courtroom apparently. (History buffs will get that decidedly un-PC remark.)
HBO, 8 p.m.

6. Hancock
Will Smith stars as a cranky super hero who seems more interested in getting drunk than saving lives until PR whiz Jason Bateman whips him into shape. The movie offers some fun action and insightful satire until a late plot twist involving Charlize Theron either ruins it for you or makes it better. You be the judge.

See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Charlize Theron.
Starz 9:25 p.m.

7. The Jay Leno Show (new)
Tonight, Jay, better known as Jeff Zucker's Hail Mary Pass, chats up the network's chief news anchor, Brian Williams.
NBC, 10 p.m.

Bonus Picks:
Eastwick
The ladies are hot tonight in this new series based on the Jack Nicholson movie, Witches of Eastwick. In fact, they're extra hot -- in tonight's episode, the town puts on an old fashioned witch burning for Halloween.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Rebecca Romijn.
ABC, 10 p.m.

Burn After Reading
The Coen Brothers go comedic again in this slapstick farce about a vain pair of gym employees who steal a secret government disc and try to hold it for ransom. Funnier than it sounds, the movie stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Francis McDormand and the always flawless John Malkovich as the agent in distress.
Cinemax, 10 p.m.

8. NBA Basketball
Utah at Denver.
ESPN, 10:30 p.m.

Bonus Pick:
27 Dresses
Katherine Heigl stars as a perpetual bridesmaid who can't seem to  catch the ring. Of course, after watching the gorgeous Heigl for 27 seconds in 27 Dresses, you realize the premise is implausible, if not outright laughable. But Heigl's charm makes it a frothy and fun flick.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Katherine Heigl.
HBO 2, 10:30 p.m.

9. Late Night With David Letterman
Tonight's guests include Patrick Dempsey and Sting. Uh-oh, no ladies? What will Dave do?! Oh yeah, the staffers, right Dave?
CBS, 11:35 p.m.

10. The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien
Tonight's guests include ski racer Lindsey Vonn. And they wonder why Conan's ratings are going downhill, if you'll forgive the pun.

NBC, 11:35 p.m.
