2013: Westinghouse Unveils 110-Inch 4K TV
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (December 28, 2012) --
Westinghouse announced yesterday that it will showcase a
110-inch 4K Ultra High-Definition TV at the Consumer Electronics
Show next month in Las Vegas.
The monster-sized set will be accompanied by 50-inch, 55-inch
and 65-inch 4K sets. The first two sets are a bit surprising
with some display experts saying that the benefits of 4K are
difficult to detect in a TV under 60 inches.
The 4K TV offers four times the resolution of a
current 1080p
HDTV, but the technology's sharper detail is best seen on a
larger screen.
“The new
Westinghouse lineup of UHDTV (also called 4k) displays feature the highest picture
quality currently achievable in consumer-level video equipment
at 3840 x 2160 pixels of resolution. This is double the
resolution (both horizontally and vertically) of todays best
1080p HDTVs, or 4 times the number of pixels. In addition to
conventionally sized 50-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch models with
native 120 Hz refresh rates, the lineup will be spearheaded by
an enormous 110-inch display that will literally put a
theatrical experience into the home," the company said in a
statement.
Westinghouse
added that the 50-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch models
will be available at retail in the first quarter of 2013. The
110-inch model will be available as a custom order in the first
quarter.
