Adam Freifeld, a spokesman for NBC Sports, told TVPredictions.com today that NBC would not show Wimbledon in HD. He did not elaborate on the reasons behind the decision.
NBC has the rights to broadcast the prestigious tennis tournament from June 30 to July 8th. As the only major broadcast network in the U.S. that will carry Wimbledon, NBC's coverage will be watched by millions of Americans.

No high-def for Maria Sharapova on NBC or ESPN2.
In the past, NBC has cited a variety of reasons for why it could not show Wimbledon in HD, from technical considerations to camera issues.
ESPN2, which has the rights to broadcast matches from today's opening round to July 8th, says at its web site that it will show Wimbledon in high-def on its HD simulcast channel, ESPN2 HD. Several listings guides also say the tournament will be in HD on ESPN2 HD.
But Dave Nagle, a ESPN spokesman, this morning told TVPredictions.com that its Wimbledon coverage won't be in high-def. He said ESPN2 HD will air the event in widescreen, but it will be in standard definition, not High-Definition.
Nagle said there were "lots of reasons" for the decision and noted that ESPN has never shown Wimbledon in high-def before.
The BBC is showing the Wimbledon tournament on a special HD channel in the UK, according to the BBC web site.
