HDTV Review:
The XBox HD-DVD Player
CNET gives it a score of 7.5
out of a possible 10.

--
Microsoft has added a HD-DVD player attachment to its
XBox 360. And, while it has its faults, CNET.com says it
could be a solid alternative to more expensive HD-DVD
players.
In a new review, the technology web site gives the XBox
HD-DVD a score of 7.5 out of a possible 10.
CNET notes that the player costs $199, less than half of
today's standalone HD-DVD players. (Although the base
XBox 360 itself costs $299.)
"We
also
appreciated
that
the
player's
disc-load
times
were
half
those
of
Toshiba's
current
HD-DVD
players,
and
its
two
rear
USB
slots
that
let
you
connect
USB
peripherals,"
the
review
stated.

On
the
down
side,
CNET
says
the
XBox
doesn't
have
a
HDMI
connection,
which

"While it doesn't offer HDMI
connectivity, the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player matches up well against
stand-alone HD-DVD players, and it's a relative bargain at
$200," the review said.
CNET says it compared the XBox HD-DVD's picture performance
against the Toshiba standalone HD-DVD player and came away
impressed.
"In short, the Xbox 360 looked just as sharp as the Toshiba, and
the picture was essentially identical in every way--which is to
say, it looked great," CNET said.
